Taking the elf away for the weekend
Pack the elf somewhere it won't get squashed and keep setups tiny while you're away: a new place does half the work. A hotel shelf or a relative's kitchen is a brand new hiding spot.
What to do
- Pack the elf in a coat pocket or a bag with some air, not squashed under the suitcase lid.
- A new place does half the work: a hotel shelf, a relative's kitchen, a campervan mirror.
- Keep setups tiny on a travel day: a hat on a toothbrush pot or a small note is plenty.
- Leaving the elf at home instead? The page for going away has a message for that.
- The doors open on this phone wherever you are, so nothing else has to travel.
A note you can copy
Surprise. I stowed away in the bag. Don't tell the suitcase. New place, new hiding spots, and I plan to use every one.
Write it out in wobbly capitals and leave it with the elf. Add your child's name at the top if you like.
Other tricky nights
- Someone picked up the elf: what now?
- Forgot to move the elf?
- When your child asks "Is the elf real?"
- When the elf lives in two homes
