Elf idea: Bird feeder to hang outside
The elf has left a toilet roll tube, a spoon and cereal to make a bird feeder together. It takes about 10 minutes and a little effort; you need toilet roll or kitchen roll, ketchup, chocolate spread, peanut butter, syrup or hot chocolate powder, breakfast cereal and milk, string, wool, ribbon or dental floss.

- What you need
- Toilet roll or kitchen roll (and the empty tube)
- Ketchup, chocolate spread, peanut butter, syrup or hot chocolate powder
- Breakfast cereal and milk (the box and loose bits)
- String, wool, ribbon or dental floss
How to do it
- Lay out a toilet roll tube, string, a spoon and some oats or plain cereal.
- For the spread, use smooth peanut butter, or lard if anyone at home has a nut allergy. Never chocolate spread: chocolate is poisonous to birds.
- Write 'Spread, roll, hang. Birds need breakfast too.'
- Sit the elf with the tube half covered.
Photo tip
Shoot the ingredients laid out flat with the elf in the corner.
A morning line from your elf
The birds are cold and hungry. Make this feeder with me and hang it outside. Birds' breakfast, not yours.
